Can I add a timer to my online puzzles?

At this time there’s no built-in way to have EclipseCrossword add a timer to online puzzles. We might add that in the future, but one of the reasons we haven’t yet is that it won’t stop cheaters.

Beware of cheaters

• Players can solve a puzzle once, print or write down the answers, refresh the page to start over, and then solve it extremely quickly.
• If you have players print out their completed puzzles or take a screenshot or photo, a knowledgeable user could simply change the time displayed before submitting, making it seem as if they finished the puzzle in far less time than it actually took. (Changing text on a web page is easy if you know how, and can be done in seconds.)

So, unfortunately, right now we don’t recommend that you try to time people solving your puzzles.
